Dean founed FIRST in 1989 in Manchester, NH. The name FIRST stands for, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. Dean was assisted by a man named Woodie Flowers, an MIT professor. Together they founded a competition that would get everyone intereseted in science and engineering, regardless of their skill level.
